Job Summary
The primary objective of the RTR Finance Services Tax Manager I is operational and tactical support to ensure compliance with multi-state operational tax returns and payment requirements in accordance with bottler policies and tax law to minimize exposure to issues and penalties. Tax types include Sales/Use, Property Tax, Unclaimed Property, Business License, Fleet Tax, and Mandatory Deposits.
This position performs tax statute research, communicates with taxing authorities and bottler Finance leadership, and provides insight on strategies to minimize audit payments and exposure issues. Actively partners with other functional groups within Coca-Cola Bottler Sales & Services to provide tax training, guidance, assistance, and support. Provides excellent customer service to bottler clients, facilitates open communication, and contributes to a positive team environment. In addition, this position will be relied upon to identify and help implement process improvements and new technology, and to develop/share best practices.
Scope of responsibility: includes taxability research, resolution of tax discrepancies with taxing authorities, tax return compliance filings, research of tax software technical issues, audit support, and refund filings across 6 Coca-Cola bottlers, 21 states, and 4k+ jurisdictions. Responsibility also includes month-end tax-related close support, including month-end close, tax journal entries, and tax account reconciliations.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Research tax statutes, transaction taxability, and provide insight to bottler and Finance leadership regarding tax issues and mitigation strategies
- Review and supervise the preparation of multi-state operational tax filings, including:
- Analyzing financial and operational data used as support for return filings to ensure accurate filings/payments as required by tax laws
- Manage daily activities and workflow
- Issue payments to taxing authorities and recording appropriate entries within the financial statements
- Subject matter expert in Tax Software (Vertex, OPT, TrackerPro, License Pro), including ability to troubleshoot, communicate with vendor and ability to identify discrepancies
- Operational oversight to include support in preparation of returns, tax compliance questions, reconciliations, month-end close activities, and ongoing training
- Identify best practices/procedures and develop recommendations to improve the compliance processes
- Review and supervise accounting support, including Balance Sheet Reconciliations, Journal Entries, and Month End Close
- Compile monthly and quarterly reporting; including balance sheet narratives, tax analysis, and exposure reporting.
- Collaborate with CCBSS functional areas to ensure appropriate process adjustments are made to successfully provide reporting and reconciliations in each tax area in support of accurate regulatory filings and financial accounting impact
- Ability to adapt communication styles to effectively communicate with key stakeholders such as bottler clients, internal CCBSS teams, and taxing authorities
- Ongoing development and administration of procedures and internal controls within the tax function in accordance with Sarbanes-Oxley
Duties and Responsibilities
- Tactical/operational support for FSM III Tax Compliance & Accounting Sr Manager with responsibility for:
- 65 tax, bottle deposit, UCP, and business license balance sheet reconciliations, monthly
- 970 multi-state sales/use, soft drink, and bottle deposit returns, annually
- 20 property and real estate tax returns
- 4,600+ property tax assessments & bills
- 880 business licenses, annually
- 14,000+ unclaimed property transactions, annually
Key Skills and Abilities
- Strong understanding of finance business processes and accounting policies/GAAP and ability to apply

- Preferred: Previous bottling industry experience; tax compliance experience
Education Requirements
- Minimum: 4 Year / Bachelor’s Degree — Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- Preferred: 4 Year / Bachelor’s Degree — Master's degree and/or CPA preferred
Years of Experience
- Minimum 5 years of finance and/or accounting experience (knowledge of SAP would be preferred)
Required Travel
Willingness and ability to travel or come into the office as required by the business.

This is a teleworking role that requires working at a CCBSS office location on a regular basis (or a minimum number of days per month or week) at the manager’s discretion. The number of days required at a CCBSS office location is at the manager’s discretion and is subject to change depending on business needs.
