Job Summary

The Senior Tax Accountant is responsible for analyzing bottler financial data and preparing multi-state operational tax returns in compliance with bottler policies and tax law requirements. While this role covers various tax types, including Sales/Use, Unclaimed Property, Business License, Fleet Tax, and Mandatory Deposits, it will primarily focus on Property Tax. Key responsibilities include conducting tax statute research, communicating with tax authorities, and collaborating with bottler Finance leadership. The Senior Tax Accountant also provides strategic insights to minimize audit payments and exposure risks, with a particular emphasis on managing and optimizing Property Tax matters.

 

Additionally, this role involves partnering with other functional groups within Coca-Cola Bottler Sales & Services, as well as with the BPO provider, providing tax training, guidance, and support. Delivering exceptional customer service through advanced analytical support and timely, accurate reporting of financial statements and tax filings is also a crucial aspect of this role.

 

The scope of responsibility includes performing taxability research, resolving tax discrepancies with taxing authorities, ensuring compliance with tax return filings, and addressing technical issues related to tax software. The Senior Tax Accountant will support audit processes and manage refund filings across six Coca-Cola bottlers, 21 states, and over 4,000 jurisdictions. Responsibilities also extend to month-end close activities, including tax journal entries, annual budget preparation, and tax account reconciliations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Tax Research and Analysis: Conduct research on tax statutes and transaction taxability. Provide strategic insights to Finance leadership regarding tax issues and mitigation strategies.
  • Tax Filings and Payments: Prepare, review, and supervise the preparation of multi-state operational tax filings. This includes analyzing financial and operational data to ensure accurate filings and payments in compliance with tax laws. Manage daily activities and workflow of the offshore BPO to ensure timely filing and issue payments to taxing authorities, recording the appropriate entries within the financial statements.
  • BPO Oversight and Development: Assist in overseeing the offshore BPO tax partner, including training, and developing skills, ensuring a thorough understanding of tax software, tax compliance, and related general ledger activities.
  • Communication with Taxing Authorities: Directly communicate with taxing authorities to resolve inquiries, respond to notices and information requests, and provide tax analysis to support return filings and payments.
  • Tax Software Expertise: Serve as a subject matter expert in tax software such as Vertex, PTMS, Tracker PRO, and License HQ. This includes troubleshooting issues, communicating with vendors, and identifying discrepancies.
  • Collaboration with Operational and Finance Teams: Communicate with both operational and finance teams within the bottler to gather necessary information for calculating tax obligations, resolving tax inquiries, and providing tax insights to support strategic decisions.
  • Audit Support: Provide support for financial and tax compliance audits by preparing documentation and tax rationale.
  • Tax Functionality Management: Serve as BPL for CONA and manage tax-related functionality, including the maintenance of tax tables within CONA to ensure accurate taxability in accordance with sales and use tax laws.
  • Accounting Support: Prepare, review, and supervise accounting support activities, including balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close processes.

Key Skills and Abilities

  • Experience with SAP and proficiency in property tax software such as PTMS preferred.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Excel, Access, Word, and internet tax research tools.

Education Requirements

  • Minimum 4 year Bachelors Degree with a major in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration.
  • CPA, CMI and/or Masters of Tax preferred.

 

Years of Experience

3 to 5 years of finance and/or accounting experience and operational tax experience.

Required Travel

Travel is not expected in this job, however, employees may be asked to travel for meetings or training on occasion.

CCBSS operates a hybrid working environment. This is a teleworking role that requires working at a CCBSS office location on a regular basis (or a minimum number of days per month or week) at the manager’s discretion.
